After spending two and a half days at San Gerardo de Dota last month we came home with some great pictures and some good memories.
San Gerardo de Dota is a small high mountain village in the Talamanca mountains of Costa Rica. It is a village of about 150 full time residents. They do most of their own growing of food as it is very expensive to have things shipped in to them. They have quite a few fish hatcheries as well along the Savegre River so quite a bit of fish is eaten. The locals are very in tune with conservation and the nature that they are blessed with.
We hired a guide to show us the Resplendent Quetzal. This guide was incredible, he took us to some private property that had a wild avocado tree growing on it. We saw up to 6 of the Quetzals in that tree all at once. If you ever get the chance to visit this area, you will not be disappointed.
